Hello!
My name is Fish and welcome to my blog!
I started this site as a creative outlet whilst also documenting my journey with food. Here is where I share my love for food, from eating it, cooking it, reading about it to travelling for it.
In the winter of 2018, when boredom struck, I signed up for an intensive cooking course at Leiths School of Food and Wine. When I completed my course, I wanted to learn what it’s like to be in a professional kitchen and was lucky enough to land a weekend gig on top of my career in digital with the amazing Theo Randall.
When the pandemic broke, the anxiety over the impact of the pandemic had affected me mentally more than I would want to admit. I realised that I needed to be kept busy, and had started learning new skills. Photography and blogging were amongst other things, and what better to put them into good use than sharing them with others, whom I hope would find it useful or even entertaining.
I hope you would enjoy being on this journey with me.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Bangkok. Then I moved over to the UK to study engineering and had been here since.
Growing up, I was exposed to Thai regional cuisines at a young age. My mum was from the southern part and my dad was from the northeast. Therefore, our household would have meals that truly represent the whole of Thailand. So for me, Thai food is far from being one dimensional – it is not just Pad Thai and RGY curries (red, green, yellow).
There is so much more to Thai food, both the flavours and ingredients it has to offer than what is popularly portrayed in the UK. So I hope I can be a tiny voice to advocate for the kind of Thai food I grew up eating.
Is your name actually Fish?
Yes and no. My Thai name is ‘Loukpla’ which means baby fish in English. I don’t remember when it started but my friends have always called me a variation of fish – fishie, baby fish or fishball. So during my time at university, I decided to tell my new-found friends to call me Fish.
